Library Automation using Library Management Systems
Libraries globally have transitioned from the traditional manual operations to ICT based services using library management systems and digital library services commonly known as e-libraries. The most robust systems deployed by several libraries to accomplish these tasks include Koha Integrated Library System (ILS) for bibliographical data management and DSpace for archiving and long-term preservation of digital content. Over the years, Osmass Haven-Tech has helped institutions of higher learning and organisations in Uganda to implement library automation using Koha integrated library system. Koha is an open source robust system deployed in both small and large libraries world-wide.
Knowledge Management Solutions
Globally, libraries exist to support the functions of the parent organization thereby achieving their vision and mission. In Universities, they support the function of teaching, learning, research and community outreach. In pursuit of this role, libraries support the organisation community by providing information sources in both print and electronic formats, and also offer worldwide publicity to intellectual works of their researchers through institutional repository archiving. It is very important to preserve organisation’s intellectual memory to enable business continuity through Institutional Repository (IR). For institutions like Universities, an IR helps in promoting the scholarly output of the University and allows libraries to increase the visibility of the University’s scholarly output and therefore improved webometric rankings. Therefore, through rigorous efforts in improving and the successful implementation of IR an institution is able to effectively disseminate its intellectual output as well as providing long term preservation for the content.
Osmass Haven-Tech helps institutions in setting up Institutional Repositories using DSpace systems and provides the requisite technical and functional training for the sustainability of these repositories.
